Our Team & Tutors

Director: Kendra Srivastava

Kendra holds a BA in English from Luther College as well as an ESL Teaching Certificate from Seattle University. She has several years’ tutoring experience and loves helping students learn. In her spare time, Kendra loves practicing yoga, biking, traveling, and reading. She is dedicated to making Academic Trainers the best tutoring center for your students’ needs!

Co-Director: Katie Gustin

Katie earned a BA in Communication and Theatre Arts from Marquette University and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Katie is passionate about language/foreign languages and also has a passion for writing and literature. Katie enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring the Bay Area, reading and journaling, spreading mental health awareness, and playing folk music. She is happy to be here to help the students, families and staff at AT!

 

Bryce attended Santa Clara University and graduated with an English Literature major and a History minor. He has always had an equal love of reading and writing fiction, which he fulfilled with his emphasis in Creative Writing. He has also studied Spanish and French and traveled to France and England twice. Bryce likes to make the humanities as easy and interesting as he can for students of all ages!

Catherine earned her B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in Art from Michigan State University. She has many years of teaching experience in a wide range of subjects, from history and  English to science and math. She has multiple years of test prep for the ACT and SAT. She absolutely loves teaching and challenging her students to grow. She is an avid traveler, reader, chef and foodie!

Joanna earned her M.S. in Statistics from San Jose State University. She has several years of experience helping students learn about her favorite subject - math! She loves sharing ideas with students and learning from them as well. Her favorite hobbies are traveling and sketching.

Lauren earned her B.A. in International Economics with a minor in Environmental Studies from UCLA. She is just beginning her Masters in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences. She has tutored and worked with children throughout her studies and has a philosophy of always making the material interesting and engaging. Lauren also has a background in conservation and wilderness survival as well as working on clean water initiatives.

Maria attended Notre Dame de Namur University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry. She plans to go to medical school once she has completed her pre-med certification. Maria loves reading, painting, dancing, and inventing new recipes! Maria is a seasoned traveler and has been to exciting places like France, China, and Japan.

Mary attended San José State University and graduated with a Design Studies major and Philosophy minor. She fell in love with words at a young age and loves to use them with precision, not only writing her own short stories and poetry but also volunteering her skills as an editor to other hobbyist writers. After college she served with Americorps in Montana, assisting a child-oriented nonprofit with messaging and outreach. In her spare time, she keeps busy with reading, writing, drawing, and all manner of creative multimedia pursuits. She gets a kick out of helping students visualize complex concepts in new ways, and likes to use memory tricks drawn from cognitive psychology research to help make key ideas stick.

Michael holds a BA in Psychology, an MA in Counseling Psychology, and a BS in Cellular/Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Humboldt State University. He loves all things related to science, and enjoys finding ways of integrating different fields of knowledge. In his free time he paints, reads, and flies drones.

Rex attended UC Davis where he earned a BS in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. As a tutor, Rex encourages his students to explain the concept to him before working through example problems, and figuring out a method for solving them. Rex enjoys photography, playing golf, and tinkering with electronics and computers. He aspires to be a medical doctor and obtain a MA or PhD in Neuroscience or Psychology.

Victor attended University of California, Berkeley and graduated with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics. He has experience helping college students with mathematics. He enjoys using what he learned in school to help other students succeed! His favorite hobbies include video games, tennis, and badminton.

Z earned her BS in Biological Sciences and minored in Chemistry at CSU. She is on a pre-med track, but she's also super popular with younger students! Z likes to make every topic fun, using every trick up her sleeve to make the content make sense. If you like camping, skiing, outdoor activities, traveling, or playing video games, then the two of you will have a lot to talk about.
